Very First News Blog - June 2020

This will be the first blog devoted to geek news. The original plan was to make a video of me telling the news, how wet, after recording and attempting an edit, it was not to my standards and was not useable.

I shall keep working on it and hopefully have videos to go with these blogs. So until then, I thought I might as well release this blog as I had put the work into the stories.

Starting with news from Warner Brothers. Due to the continued closures of theatres and countries still tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, Warner Brothers have decided to delay the theatrical release of several blockbuster movies. The full list is as follows:

Godzilla Vs Kong has moved from November 2020 to May 2021,

Tom and Jerry has moved from December 2020 to March 2021,

The new Roald Dahl adaption of The Witches has moved from October 2020 to sometime in 2021,

The new Matrix movie has moved from 2021 to 2022,

An untitled New Line horror movie was set back to June 2021,

Wonder Woman 1984 has moved again, from August 2020 to October,

Tenet has moved from July 17th to July 21st, 2020 (for now).

This is one of several moves for Wonder Woman, even before the coronavirus outbreak but Warner Brothers are adamant that the movie will best be experienced in a cinema environment where other companies have released movies direct to digital release.

This is also bad news for Tenet as it was supposed to be the big blockbuster released post COVID-19 but as it stands, that will go to Disney’s live action remake of Mulan (for now).

DC Comics, which is owned by Warner Brothers, has recently announced their DC Fandome. An online convention where anyone around the world can log in and see the stars, film makers,  and creators behind DC’s biggest properties in the film, tv, gaming, and comics lines. Going live on August 22nd, this will be one of the first online conventions seeing as they cannot take place due to the global pandemic. Many stars such as Jason Mamoa, Jim Lee, Gal Gadot and others have shared this news so we can only assume that they will be present to present online “panels”. There is also a hope that they will show off and make some new exciting announcements to show what will be coming soon for the DC universes.

DC released this map along with the press release to show what different areas you can look through whilst there.

DC fandome launces August 22nd at 10am PDT.

AT&T are looking to try and sell the division for around $4 Billion with gaming companies such as Activision, EA, Blizzard etc showing some interest. More cannot be said yet as talks are happening in private.

This months Twitch Prime Apex skin is now live. All you have to do is to connect your Amazon Prime account to your Twitch account and then go to the Prime Loot section. Then connect your EA account to that and claim it. This month’s skin is dedicated to the Kiwi warrior Gibraltar.

Nintendo have announced that the number of user accounts compromised by hackers has almost doubled to 300,000 accounts.

The Japanese gaming giant originally stated that 160,000 accounts were compromised but an updated statement has said a further 140,000 accounts were also compromised. The compromise has exposed user’s personal information such as name, country of residence, date of birth and email address.

Nintendo have contacted the users who were affected and suggested they change their passwords and enable 2 factor authentication. If you have not already enabled two factor authentication on your Nintendo account, or any other account that offers this service, it is highly recommended that you do so as soon as possible.

More information can be found here.

Huge news from Nintendo …

NEW POKEMON SNAP IS COMING TO THE SWITCH!!!

The original is a fan favourite and was release in 1999 on the Nintendo 64 and made you a photographer of Pokémon whilst you travelled through different areas and views, trying to get the best pictures of various Pokémon. Being a fan favourite, there has been calls for a remake for years. The new version will include all the fan favourite Pokémon and you can discover never-before seen Pokémon expressions and behaviours. It is unclear when it will be released but it should be a big hit.

On Monday, EA announced the Star Wars Squadrons game via its YouTube channel. It was first leaked onto Xbox stores without any information and it appears like it will be similar to the space battles as shown in the Star Wars battlefront games. However, Monday just showed game engine trailer featuring rebellion and imperial squadrons attacking. According to the website, the game will feature VR support for PlayStation and PC with cross play support and will feature new planets as a background for Star Wars dogfights.  Star Wars squadrons is set for release on the 2nd October 2020 so I assume more information and gameplay will follow in the coming months. Star Wars squadrons can be pre-ordered on Origin for Pc and pre order will come soon on console.

To finish with gaming, this weekend saw the pc gaming show where developers showcased up and coming games which would have been shown during E3. There are too many to name, however a link to the trailers and games is included here.

CD Projekt Red announced on their twitter on Thursday that their hugely anticipated game Cyberpunk 2077 has once again been delayed, this time until November 2020. They said:

“At the time we are writing these words, Cyberpunk 2077 is finished in both content and gameplay-wise. The quests, cutscenes, skills and items, all the adventures night city has to offer is all there. But with such an abundance of content and complex systems interweaving with each other, we need to properly go through everything. Balance game mechanics and fix a lot of bugs “

June usually has the Worldwide developer conference by apple. This is a week devoted to the developers of the apps and programmes used on apple devices. However, due to the coronavirus, the conference will be entirely online. People can download the free developer app and follow along with the events which will start with a special event keynote on the 22nd June at 10am PDT.

This keynote will announce the latest software updates and innovations such as iOS 14 and others. It this is the first time this has been done remotely and possibly pre-recorded so hopefully it will go well.

This is a huge event for apple app developers and this year it will be even bigger as any developer can take part, whereas in previous years, you had to have an invite and then pay to go there. This would include flights, hotels and other expenses which not all developers had a chance to be able to get to or afford.

Possibly if this goes well then apple may open it up to more of the public in future or have it both in person and online.

Rumours surrounding what can be expected from iOS 14 are mostly just performance upgrades, however its believed that they may feature a home screen as seen on iPad OS, may feature more heavily in the augmented reality parts of the OS with a potential standalone app, CarKey which would allow apple devices to lock, unlock and start certain cars that feature the NFC capabilities and general app upgrades.

Rumours also state that for the first time, all devices that run iOS 13 will be able to run iOS 14.

It is usually rare that hardware is announced during the conference, but it is not unknown, with some thinking that a new iMac and new arm-based macs. However previously, apple have just updated the website for some new releases so stay tuned for any updates.

Usually apple also tend to release new software for their other devices like the watch, the tv and macs so stay tuned for updates next week on everything that was announced.
